Frequently asked questions
Which devices can play StrainBorn?
iPhone and iPad, plus Mac. You can play with touch, a game controller (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro or MFi, with remappable buttons), or a keyboard and mouse. See every control in the wiki.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. StrainBorn is single-player and works offline. There's no account to make.
Does the game collect any data?
While StrainBorn is in beta, it sends us gameplay data by default (how your runs go, your progress and a copy of your save, your device model and the game's version) to help us fix bugs and balance it. It never includes your name or email, and you can turn it off in the game's Settings (Share gameplay data). The Privacy Policy has the details.
Where is my progress saved? Can I move it to a new device?
Your progress is saved on your device. If your device backs up apps to iCloud or your computer, restoring that backup brings your progress with it.
I deleted the app. Can I get my progress back?
Only if it was included in a device backup you can restore. Deleting the app deletes its local save.
How do I unlock the other viruses and Game Modes?
Keep playing Infect Game Mode. As you level up and your lineage grows, mutations can turn your virus into new types, and new features open one at a time.
How do I get a refund for a purchase?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Are the viruses in the game real?
They're fictional, inspired by real viruses. The Codex explains the real biology behind the cells, organs and treatments you meet. It's for fun and learning, not medical advice.
