The feast

Tumor Rewards

Rewards for Destroying a Tumor

Rapidly dividing cells are a feast for a virus. Destroy the core and the whole tumor collapses at once (apoptosis), and the bigger it grew, the bigger the payout.

TUMOR DESTROYED: its dividing cells were a feast. Every cell of the tumor dies with the core and a pile of loot drops.

  • Nucleotides: 30 in the Nasal Passage, 45 Lungs, 66 Bloodstream, 84 Lymph Node, 102 Gut, 120 Liver, 141 Bone Marrow, 165 Brain (before modifiers)
  • +25% nucleotides for every growth stage
  • A chest and a mutation orb
  • Chaperones: half of 2 in the Nasal Passage, +1 per organ deeper (about 1 in the Nasal Passage, 4–5 in the Brain)
  • In Pandemic Game Mode about a 2 in 5 chance of an RNA strand (elsewhere a 40% chance of a few nucleotides instead)
  • 4% chance of a Dormant Virion (an extra life)
  • Its pools, lesions and tendrils vanish
From the Codex

Cancer is the host's own cells dividing out of control after mutations break their brakes. Some viruses (HPV, Epstein-Barr, hepatitis B) can help cause it.

Fun fact: Oncolytic viruses are engineered to infect and burst cancer cells; T-VEC, a modified herpes virus, is approved for melanoma.

Satellite parts pay a few nucleotides as you destroy them; the core pays only when the tumor collapses.

  • Nodules, polyps, lobes and glial nodes drop a few nucleotides each
  • Starting clone cells, blasts and harmless lymphocytes sometimes drop a few
  • Cells budded mid-fight pay nothing
From the Codex

The building block of DNA and RNA: a sugar, a phosphate and a base (A, T, C, G in DNA; A, U, C, G in RNA).

Fun fact: Influenza stores its genes as RNA, so it uses U in place of T.
