Your virus wears six pieces of gear: five stat pieces and the Viral Genome, which adds levels to skills instead. Each stat slot is named for a real part of a virus particle and works like a classic RPG equipment slot. Every virus in your lineage shares one loadout and one bag, so gear carries over whichever virus a generation becomes, and you keep it when you die.
The protein shell around the genome, worn as your helmet. It leans toward survival, stealth and ability charge.
Can roll: Max HP, Crit chance, Crit damage, Stealth, Ult charge, Shift charge, Regen, Pickup range
Boss set pieces for this slot are Crowns (e.g. Histamine Crown)
From the Codex
The protein shell that encloses a virus's genome, built from repeating subunits called capsomeres. Most are icosahedral (20 triangular faces) or helical.
Fun fact: Capsids self-assemble: the proteins snap together on their own, like a puzzle that builds itself.
A sixth piece, like a class mod: instead of stats it adds levels to skill-tree skills. A skill you haven't learned is yours while it's worn, and one you have goes up, even past its maximum (a 3/3 skill with +2 plays as 5/3).
Three kinds: Pure (every skill from one tree), Recombinant (two from one tree, a third from another), Mosaic (one from each tree)
Common: 1 skill at +1 · Uncommon: 1–2 at +1–2 · Rare: 1–2 at +1–2 · Epic: 2 at +2 · Legendary: 2–3 at +2–3 · Mythic: 2–3 at +2–3 · Prismatic: 3 at +3
Active skills are a little rare on a genome (each level past 1 makes the active 20% stronger); capstones are very rare (a genome capstone stands in for the one you chose in that tree)
Never two active skills, two capstones from one tree, or the same skill twice; Shrapnel Ring never rolls
About 8% of regular gear drops are a Viral Genome; it belongs to no set and can't be enhanced or combined
Tap a skill on a genome to see its effect without the genome and with it worn, at each rank
From the Codex
Your virus's experience and the skills it buys.
Fun fact: Switching to another capstone in the same tree is free: its point moves over.
