Endless Boons & Curses

Endless boons and curses

Each set rolls its own global effects from these 22. Boons help you; curses make the immune system stronger.

Your hits land critically more often.

  • +15% critical hit chance
From the Codex

Lucky double-damage hits, and healing from your own damage.

Fun fact: Lifesteal only works on auto-attacks, so it rewards keeping your fire up.

Critical Hits & Lifesteal in the Codex

A tougher outer layer.

  • Take 15% less damage
From the Codex

An outer lipid membrane some viruses steal from the host cell as they bud out of it, studded with the virus's own glycoproteins.

Fun fact: Enveloped viruses like flu and HIV are fragile outside the body: soap dissolves their envelope.

Viral Envelope in the Codex

Your auto-attacks heal you.

  • Auto-attacks heal 2% of their damage
From the Codex

Viruses reprogram cell metabolism to siphon off nutrients and building blocks for themselves.

Vampiric Uptake in the Codex

Cells that touch you get hurt.

  • Cells that touch you take 20 damage
From the Codex

Some viral proteins damage the membranes of immune cells that try to grab them.

Barbed Spikes in the Codex

Your dash comes back sooner.

  • Dash recharges 40% faster
From the Codex

A quick burst of movement.

Fun fact: Dash through attacks rather than away from them. Watch out for thymocytes, which copy your dash.

Dash in the Codex

Faster shots.

  • Shots fly 30% faster
From the Codex

A complete, infectious virus particle that exists outside a host cell.

Fun fact: A single infected cell can release thousands of new virions.

Virion in the Codex

More to collect.

  • +60% nucleotides
From the Codex

The building block of DNA and RNA: a sugar, a phosphate and a base (A, T, C, G in DNA; A, U, C, G in RNA).

Fun fact: Influenza stores its genes as RNA, so it uses U in place of T.

Nucleotide in the Codex

Dead cells take their neighbours with them.

  • Dying cells burst and hurt their neighbours
From the Codex

Lytic viruses burst their host cells, releasing virions and inflammatory debris all at once.

Lysis Cascade in the Codex

Pickups come to you from farther away.

  • Pick up drops from twice as far
From the Codex

High-affinity attachment proteins help virions stick to and gather around target cells.

Magnetic Capsid in the Codex

Fever

Curse

Faster immune cells.

  • Cells move 25% faster
From the Codex

Activated immune cells move faster, following chemical trails to the infection.

Agile Defenders in the Codex

Harder-hitting immune cells.

  • Cells hit 30% harder
From the Codex

A raised body temperature triggered by the immune system. It slows some pathogens and speeds up immune responses.

Fun fact: The fever and aches of the flu come mostly from your own immune response, not directly from the virus.

Fever in the Codex

Tougher immune cells.

  • Cells have 35% more HP
From the Codex

A Y-shaped protein made by B cells that binds to a specific part of a pathogen, marking it for destruction.

Fun fact: Your body can make billions of different antibodies.

Antibody in the Codex

Faster enemy shots.

  • Cell shots fly 35% faster

Wounded cells recover.

  • Wounded cells heal over time
From the Codex

Inflammation speeds tissue repair, helping the host recover from damage.

Inflamed in the Codex

Elite cells everywhere.

  • Far more elite cells (twice as likely)
From the Codex

Immune cells exist in resting and activated states. Activated cells are bigger, multiply, produce more weapons and live longer; trained memory cells respond faster on a second encounter.

Fun fact: An activated T cell can divide every 4 to 6 hours, turning one cell into thousands within days.

Immune Cell Activation in the Codex

The immune system notices you sooner.

  • Detection rises 80% faster
  • Cells see farther (40%)
From the Codex

How aware the host's immune system is of you, from 0 to 100. It's the bar next to the eye at the top of the screen, and the more it fills, the harder the immune system fights back.

Fun fact: Stay out of fights for a few seconds and the bar drains on its own. Refuge rooms drop it fast.

Detection in the Codex

Less to collect.

  • 30% fewer nucleotides

Bigger, meaner cells.

  • Cells have 20% more HP and hit 15% harder
From the Codex

A host with strong prior immunity (from vaccination or past infection) fights the virus off faster.

Hyperimmune Host in the Codex
