Gear Mutations

Combining (18%) and enhancing (8%) can mutate a piece. Each mutation a piece already carries halves the chance of another. A mutation is either Amplified (bigger numbers) or a Bonus ability (an extra unique), 50/50. Mutated pieces carry a pink atom badge, with ×N when they have several.

Every stat and ability bonus on the piece becomes 25% stronger.

  • Multiplies with other Amplified mutations on the same piece
From the Codex

A change in a genome's sequence. Most are harmless or harmful, and a few help the organism survive.

Fun fact: Flu's RNA polymerase doesn't proofread, so it makes errors constantly.

Bonus ability

Adds one of the 8 unique abilities the piece doesn't already have, even to a Common.

  • Can be Volatile Payload, Barbed Coat, Twin Genome, Guardian Membrane, Primed Replicase, Parasitic Uptake, Phantom Antigens or Overdrive Polymerase
  • A piece that already has all eight gets Amplified instead

Mutation in the Codex

The chance halves for every mutation a piece already carries.

  • Combining: 18%, or 9% if you carry one over
  • Enhancing: 8% per level, then 4%, 2%…
  • Enhancing can stack several mutations on one piece; combining keeps at most one plus any new roll
